It’s not about the photography!
When we travel we spend a lot of time looking through the lens but I don’t think we do it for the art of photography.
I believe there are 3 main reasons that we take the photos. We are trying to capture the essence of the place and the people we are visiting. We want to tell the story of our experiences and we want to have photos to remind us of those times.
We travel to experience new things and that is important when trying to capture the essence of the place and the people that we visit. From new landscapes, different foods, other ways to live it’s important to have generalised photography skills to capture them all.
Telling the story of our experiences means capturing the small moments and details as well as the well known sights. Making sure that we feature in at least some of our own photos will help to tell the story.
When we get home it is good to curate our images. Make online albums, post our stories on social media. Printing photo books or framing photos means that we can keep the memories alive.
